Johnny, boy of birds

A boy, just walked away from the past. I met him there at the border of the lake. It seems that he was waiting for me and when I was approaching him he turned and looked at me. His eyes lights up green.

"Do you remember me?," he asked.

I tried but I couldn't find any records of him.

"Please try again. We had such good times together."

"Who are you?"

"I'm your little birdie. You was taking care for me when you was a young boy. You was as old as I am now."

I stiffened. My sweet little birdie that filled the morning hours with his happy whistlings. I remembered his beautiful songs, making me feeling groovy every time. Sharing the happiest moments in my life when he sat upon my shoulder or was eating the seeds out of my mouth.

And then...that morning. Birdie passed away. I missed him so badly. No day could be the same without him.

"You was the best thing that could happen in my life."

I smiled and was touched by his words.

"Yeah. It was my true wish to see you once more. I wanted to be reunited and I asked. The Birdmaster gave me permission to return to you, because I missed you so much. Only..."

"Only what?"

"It was not possible for me to return to this world as bird. I was recreated as a boy."

"I love boys. And still you're my little birdie."

Tears drippling from his eyes on his cheeck. I spread my arms around him and tried to comfort him.

"Let's go home," he cried.

And then we walked away. Hand in hand. Walking around the border of the lake.

I was singing a little song and the boy of birds whisled again.

Like before.
